Apple Patches Evasi0n Untethered Jailbreak Exploit

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 26 Februari 2013 0 komentar
The usual cat  and mouse game between Apple and vast majority of jailbreaker and hackers have started again.
Evasi0n was the tool that brought about untethered jailbreak to all iDevices running iOS 6.0 - 6.1.2 for a while and seems as though the cat & mouse game ended. However new reports especially from popular member of the evad3rs team David Wang (p0sixninja) says that those that want to keep their untethered jailbreak should stay away from updating to the upcoming iOS 6.1.3 firmware.

It will interest you to know that Apple already released beta versions of iOS 6.1.3 to developers and its rumored that the untethered jailbreak exploit used by Evasi0n have been partly patched.

According to Wang, if one of the exploits are patched, the jailbreak would not be able to function. Consequently, hackers will have to look out for new vulnerabilities in the firmware to create another untethered jailbreak for all devices concerned.

Although, Wang in one of the interviews with Forbes stated that there are enough exploits already developed to keep iOS 6.x untethered jailbreak alive but it would be smart for those that want an untethered jailbreak to remain on iOS 6.1.2 until the coast is clear and the go is proclaimed by the wonderful hackers out there.

With past occurrences, it is known that no really new updates or features will be seen in iOS 6.1.3 that is so different from iOS 6.1.2. Therefore, I will advise that all folks that want to keep their jailbreak should refrain from updating to iOS 6.1.3 should it go live.

GRAVITYZONE CHALLENGES COMPETITORS WITH FASTER DEPLOYMENT/ROLLOUT AND OFFLOAD SCANNING FOR PHYSICAL ENDPOINTS

Wednesday, December 19, 2012 - Bucharest, Romania–Bitdefender, an award-winning provider of innovative security solutions, today announced GravityZone will be available on February 25, 2013.  The company launched its GravityZone beta program on November, 2012, and early results demonstrate significant positive feedback.
GravityZone is built on Bitdefender Gravity Architecture, which is a centralized security management system.  Using cloud computing architecture, GravityZone represents a breakthrough in its integration with VMware, Citrix and Microsoft, and it offers unprecedented time and cost savings due to its ability to offload scanning and deduplication functionality for physical and virtual environments.  The first of its kind, GravityZone provides full scale enterprise-wide management of physical, virtual and mobile endpoints.
“Based on what we’re hearing from our beta testers, other solutions may be well-marketed, but do not deliver in terms of scalability, or competitive solutions are still considered ‘first generation’,” said Gavin Hill, Director of Product Marketing, Bitdefender.  “GravityZone is built based on the vision that enterprises need to centralize the management of all endpoints, they need to do it in a highly scalable way, and they need to do it without draining resources.”
“We’ve been testing GravityZone since the beta program started, and its proving to deliver the kind of security management solution we need in a mixed environment – physical, virtual and mobile,” said Dennis Derks, ICT Consultant, FlexVirtual. “From the beginning, we noticed that deploying GravityZone took very little time than we have experienced with competitive solutions on the market.  In our company datacenter we are testing GravityZone with VMware vShield, Windows 8 and the latest Android platform, and this has been one of the quickest and most reliable tools we’ve implemented.  Furthermore, unlike other solution providers, the Bitdefender support and development teams have been highly responsive and dependable for any needs or updates we require. We’ve been very impressed.”

“GravityZone has a special appeal to service providers of all kinds, especially MSPs who are responsible for the management and performance of their customers’ IT operations, and who may fall under regulatory compliance laws such as HIPPA, SOX, PCI-DSS, GLBA, FISMA and others,” added Gavin Hill. “All organizations, which face dealing with security management for BYOD and hybrid environments, now have an easy, modular solution that scales to meet the unique needs of today’s enterprises.”
“Innovative solutions like GravityZone will be added to FlexVirtual’s solution stack for End User Computing, because of its simplicity during implementation and effectiveness in production environments,” said Alex Pelster, Director, FlexVirtual.
GravityZone licensing will be modular and flexible, based on CPU or VMs (virtualization) or protected endpoints (physical and mobile).
GravityZone appeals to customers of all sizes, GravityZone-in-a-Box is an all-in-one virtual appliance that caters to less than 250 seats, providing physical, virtualization and mobile security from one console. GravityZone is designed for customers of 250 seats and above, scaling very rapidly to hundreds of thousands of users, all managed from one console. Play To arrives to Lumia phones with Windows Phone 8

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
Nokia has announced that a beta trial of its DLNA streaming app Play To will be available for Windows Phone 8-powered Nokia devices.

Like other such streaming apps, Play To lets you wirelessly share photos, music, and videos to DLNA-enabled devices, including TV’s and receivers.
This is not the first time Play To has been released for Windows Phone, as there is a version for WP7-based Lumia’s with the same basic functionality.
Currently, the Play To beta for WP8 is not able to work as a digital media server, which means that it is not compatible with the PS3, although they do plan to introduce compatibility in a future release. Music streaming is also limited to content which is stored on the device.

Windows Phone Store now hosts more than 130,000 apps, Elop says

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
At Nokia’s press conference here at MWC, CEO Stephen Elop announced that the number of available Windows Phone apps has reached and surpassed the 130,000 milestone.

Popular new additions include the WhatsApp cross-platform messaging client, as well as the re-branded HERE suite of navigation and mapping applications.
It’s no secret that Nokia banked in all their chips with Microsoft’s budding mobile OS, and hope to draw smartphone users to their Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia handsets by offering the more popular apps from Android and iOS.
While Windows Phone still cannot rival the app libraries of the big dogs Android and iOS (both of which have over 700,000 total apps as of last October), this news bodes well for users looking to switch to the new OS, and are worried about the smaller number of apps.

Upcoming Nokia Asha phone design leaks

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
The Nokia event at the Mobile World Congress is about to kick off but before anything is officially announced we already have some pictures of a new Asha phone that is supposed to be announced today.

There is no information available about the device, including its name, other than this image. Only specs we can confirm from the image is a 5 megapixel rear facing camera and dual-SIM support. You can also see a transparent case for the device in some shots.

The phone has a new design that is a slight departure from previous Asha phones and is closer to the look of Nokia's Lumia phones. There is also a new dedicated back button below the display, which replaces the call and end keys on previous Asha phones.
The event is about to start and we should be finding out more about this device and the leaked Lumia 520 and 720 we saw before quite soon.

HP sells webOS rights to LG, to be used now in smart TVs

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
Looks like webOS has a new owner now. After being acquired by HP back in 2010 and then being made open source a year later, the mobile operating system has now been acquired by LG.

If you’re hoping to see some new smartphones and tablets from LG running webOS, however, you are in for a disappointment. LG has no such plans for webOS as of now and will only be using the OS to power its range of smart TVs. But that may not be such a bad thing. It’s at least better than seeing it slip slowly into oblivion in the hands of HP.
As part of the deal, LG will be acquiring the source code, documentation, engineering talent and related websites from HP. No information regarding the cost of acquisition was disclosed to the public.

Nikon licenses Microsoft patent to use in Android-enabled cameras

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 23 Februari 2013 0 komentar
Amidst all the recent patent cases revolving Android and smartphone operating systems in general, Microsoft has been able to get in on the action thanks to a patent it owns dealing with all portable devices running Android.

Nikon has recently come to terms with Microsoft in regards to current and future Android-based cameras which will likely require the renowned photography giant to pay an undisclosed royalty fee for every device sold.
This likely means that Nikon will have to fork over some cash for the current Nikon Coolpix S800C released last October with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board.
Microsoft already has similar deals with Samsung, LG, HTC, Acer and Barnes & Noble. It’s odd that Microsoft has been able to strong-arm these major manufacturers into paying for using Android, but that’s the way intellectual property patent work

Alleged Nokia Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 images hit the web

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

The days leading up to the MWC are usually filled with tons of rumors and one in particular has been heating up - that Nokia will unveil one or more affordable Lumias. Now, purported images of two models - the Lumia 520 and the Lumia 720 - have cropped up, pouring even more fuel into the fire.

Nokia Lumia 720

The image of the Nokia Lumia 720 shows a handset that looks similar to a Lumia 820. The glass on the front is curved (it's not curved on the 820), while the sides and the back are a colorful plastic shell.

There’s a Carl Zeiss label next to the camera on the back, but no resolution label. It’s also interesting that there are three pogo pins at the back, those are usually used for charging while the phone is in a dock, so the Lumia 720 probably won’t have wireless charging ( though it might be a similar deal to the Lumia 820 where a different shell can enable wireless charging).

Nokia Lumia 520

The Nokia Lumia 520 kind of looks like a Lumia 505, except the glass on the front is flat. The bezel around the screen seems thicker on this one, but the back is in bold colors, this seems to be becoming Nokia’s design signature.

Anyway, there’s no way to confirm that these images are real - not until Monday when Nokia is holding a press conference. @evleaks has been a pretty reliable source of leaked press pics of unannounced phones in the past so we wouldn’t be surprised to see these two on the stage. But will Nokia show the mystical Lumia 1000, the high-megapixel PureView Windows Phone or is it pure speculation?

Asus Padfone 2 review: Plug and play

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 22 Februari 2013 0 komentar

Introduction

In today's rapidly-growing market, it's the push for more CPU cores and (mega)pixels that has been driving the industry forward. But every now and then, an extraordinary gadget emerges to explore new and exciting dimensions. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note and the Asus Padfone dare to go against the tide and remind everyone that there's more than one right way to make a phone. Or a tablet. Or both.
Asus obviously doesn't have Samsung's momentum, level of sales or, ultimately, an unlimited budget to really go all out on a project like this, but the first Padfone was successful enough to warrant another go-around. A year later, the sequel has a foundation to build upon, and the company has had time to learn and get stuff ironed out.

And going by the Padfone 2's specs, Asus are hoping to make a splash.

Key features

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support; 3G with HSPA; LTE (market dependent)
  • 4.7" 16M-color 720p Super IPS+ capacitive touchscreen display with 312ppi density
  • Android OS v4.1.1 Jelly Bean
  • Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU, 2 GB RAM, Adreno 320 GPU; Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset
  • Docking station with 10" 1280x800 pixel display, 5000 mAh battery
  • Gorilla Glass protection for both displays
  • 13 MP autofocus camera with LED flash and geo-tagging
  • 1080p video recording @ 30fps, continuous autofocus and stereo sound
  • 1.2 MP front-facing camera on phone, 1MP front-facing camera on docking station, 720p video recording
  • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA
  • GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS
  • 16/32/64GB of built-in storage
  • MHL-enabled microUSB port
  • Bluetooth v4.0
  • NFC
  • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Accelerometer and proximity sensor
  • SonicMaster loudspeakers on phone and tablet

Main disadvantage

  • Non user-replaceable battery
  • Mediocre screen quality of the docking station
  • Non-expandable storage
  • No camera key
With the second Padfone you have a properly-powered smartphone just a 1080p screen short of matching the 2013 flagships, and one that converts into an equally powerful tablet. The station screen is not quite up to Retina standards either, but considering the price of the whole package, Asus is still vastly over-delivering.
Sure, the Asus Padfone 2 is priced rather steeply for a smartphone, but it's actually a fraction of what you'd normally pay for a quad-core smartphone and a quad-core tablet. Not to mention the added convenience of having all your files, contacts and accounts at your disposal at all times, regardless of which screen you're using.
Which leads us to the catch. You are not actually getting a smartphone and a tablet here, it's simply two screens to work with and two batteries to power the same combo. The best thing is, the Padfone station (the tablet body) will charge the phone's battery too. Think: a tablet with an escape pod, or a phone that can more than quadruple its screen size when needed.

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Qualcomm told us all about its high-end chips due to launch in mid-2013, but now it’s ready to share the full scoop on its mid-range oriented Snapdragon 200 and 400 chipsets.

Starting with the Snapdragon 400, it includes two Krait cores clocked at 1.7GHz joined by quad 1.4GHz Cortex-A7 cores; Adreno 305 GPU takes care of gaming and Qualcomm says is highly responsive for web browsing and rendering web pages.

The Snapdragon 400 has a built-in modem with support for TDSCDMA, DC-HSPA+ (42Mbps), 1x Advanced, W+G CDMA, and multi-SIM capabilities of Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS) and Dual SIM, Dual Active (DSDA). Up to 13.5 megapixel camera sensors are supported, to go with the 1080p video capture and playback and wireless connections via Miracast.
Moving over to the lower-end Snapdragon 200, we see a quad-core Cortex-A5 CPU, clocked at up to 1.4GHz and Adreno 203 GPU driving the graphics department. The chipset supports HD video playback only, LPDDR2 RAM, GPS and multi-SIM, plus cameras with up to 8 megapixel resolution.
Here’s hoping we see the new chipsets debut in some new phones once MWC kicks off in couple of days.

Sony announces NEX-3N, A58 and three point and shoot cameras

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Sony has just dropped five new cameras upon us that cover various categories, from the basic point and shoot to their higher end SLT cameras and even a new NEX camera.

Let’s start with the new NEX-3N, which is Sony’s new entry-level mirrorless camera. It has a 16.1 megapixel APS CMOS sensor that goes up to ISO 16,000 and records 1080p video. There’s also a 3.0-inch LCD that flips 180º and a zoom lever on the body that works with certain Sony powered lenses.Best of all, the NEX-3N will come bundled with the newer and more expensive 16-50mm kit lens. Thanks to the clever in-camera geometric correction, this lens delivers an equally good image quality to the standard issue 18-55, but it’s half the size in collapsed state, it’s got a wider field of view and it offers a motorized smooth zooming, which is great for shooting video. The NEX-3N will go on sale in Europe starting March.

Next is the Sony A58 SLT camera – pictured above. As we have mentioned before, Sony SLT cameras may look like traditional DSLRs but they differ in their functionality. SLT cameras have translucent mirrors that don’t move. They simultaneously allow most of the light to pass through to the sensor and reflect the remaining to the viewfinder above, which is always electronic.
The A58 has a 20.1 megapixel APS CMOS sensor that can shoot up to ISO 16,000 and 1080i50 videos, 2.7-inch, 460k dot articulating LCD and an electronic OLED viewfinder. The A58 will go on sale in Europe starting April.

Then we have the point and shoot cameras, the WX300, HX300 and TX30.The WX300 has 18.2 megapixel sensor, 20x optical zoom, 3.0-inch 460k dot LCD and built-in Wi-Fi.

The HX300 has an 18.2 megapixel sensor, 50x (!!!) optical zoom, 3.0-inch, 920k dot LCD and 1080p video recording. The TX30 is an ultracompact camera which Sony claims is the world’s slimmest digital camera that also happens to be water, dust and shock proof. It has a 18.2 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, 3.3-inch, 1,229k dot OLED touchscreen and shoots 1080p videos.

The WX300, HX300 and TX30 are priced at $329, $499 and $349 respectively. They are available for pre-order today and will go on sale in Europe in March.

Sony announces the PlayStation 4, arriving this holiday season

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

As was widely expected, Sony announced their upcoming PlayStation 4 gaming console at the February 20 event. While a lot was said about the console at the event, we still don’t know what it looks like or how much it would cost.

But let’s talk about what we do know, starting with the hardware. For the PS4, Sony is using an x86-64 AMD processor with an integrated 8-core ‘Jaguar’ CPU and GPU. The GPU is capable of delivering 1.84 TFLOPS of performance, which pegs it slightly above AMD’s Radeon HD 7870 desktop GPU announced last year. The PS4 will also have 8GB of GDDR5 memory with around 176GB/s of memory bandwidth.
Other specifications include a built-in hard drive (no mention of SSD or ability to swap the drive), 6x Blu-ray and 8x DVD drive, USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI, analog AV-out and optical S/PDIF audio output.

The PS4 will be sold with the new DualShock 4 controller, which looks very similar to the leaked prototype we saw last week. It features a two-point capacitive trackpad above the joystick and a three-color LED light bar on top, which changes color to identify player or even during a game to denote things such as player health.

The PS4 has dual 1280 x 800 resolution 3D cameras with f/2.0 fixed focus lenses, 85-degree field of view, 30cm minimum focusing distance and four-channel microphone array. These track the light bar on the controllers, they way the Move did. The DualShock 4 also has three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer, vibration, mono speaker, microUSB port, stereo headset port, extension port and a 1000mAh battery.

Moving back to the console, there are quite a lot more new features to talk about, including:
  • Ability to stream games, thanks to the Gaikai cloud based service. This could be used in future to stream PS3, PS2 and PSOne games to the PS4.
  • Ability to stream PS4 games to the PSVita. Sony is aiming to offer virtually every PS4 game on the PSVita through streaming in the future.
  • Ability to play games while they are downloading.
  • Ability to try any new game before purchasing.
  • Ability to record and upload game videos while playing games. The processing is done by a separate background processor. You can view videos uploaded by other players.
  • Ability to download games and updates while the console is switched off using the background processor.
  • Brand new interface for the PS4 as well as the PSVita.
  • New iOS and Android PlayStation App will let you use your smartphone as a second screen to view game details as well as view videos and other content uploaded by other gamers.
There will be no backward compatibility of PS3 titles on the PS4, a direct result of the new processor architecture used on the latter. The Gaikai streaming feature remains the only hope to play older titles on the PS4, although that feature hasn’t been officially announced yet. You will be able to play used PS4 games on the new console, something a lot of people do.
Speaking of games, we have a handful of confirmed titles, including ‘Killzone: Shadow Fall’, ‘inFAMOUS: Second Son’, ‘Destiny’ by Bungie, ‘Deep Down’ (working title) by Capcom, ‘DriveClub’, ‘Knack’, ‘The Witness’, ‘Diablo III’ and ‘Watch_Dogs’ by Ubisoft.
As mentioned before, we still don’t know what the console looks like or will cost. All we know is that it is expected to be released by the holiday season by the end of this year.

How To Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 Untethered With Evasi0n 1.4

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 20 Februari 2013 0 komentar
Apple released iOS 6.1.2 last week to fix some lingering issues experienced by iPhone 4S and to a lesser degree other iPhone users.
Although battery drain issue due to excessive Microsoft exchange communication between the Microsoft server and iDevice was fixed, passcode issue is still there.
Consequently, this new update release is just for bug fixes and doesn't really bring any new features to the device.
This means that if you don't have battery drain problem and don't care about the Microsoft exchange stuff or don't use it, then you may not go through the hassle of updating.
However, if you want to update to iOS 6.1.2 and jailbreak untethered, below is a step by step process which is an excerpt of the more detailed process here.

Step 1
Download iOS 6.1.2 using iTunes or at www.idownload.com/iphone-downloads/ if you intend to preserve baseband.
To preserve baseband for Gevey unlock, follow this tutorial.

Step 2
Update your device to iOS 6.1.2 with iTunes. If you downloaded outside iTunes, just hold down the Shift key on the keyboard then press Restore, select the IPSW you downloaded. Press OK and let the update take effect

Step 3
Once your device is updated, launch Evasi0n 1.4. Wait for it to detect your device.

Step 4
Click jailbreak and then let evasi0n do its thing. Your device will reboot & a new icon (Evasi0n icon) will show up on your screen.

Step 5
Click on the icon and Evasi0n will complete its process. Once done, your device will be jailbroken untethered on iOS 6.1.2

This tutorial applies to all devices except those that can't run iOS 6.x and Apple TV 3 that doesn't have a jailbreak for now.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 rumored to launch in March, priced to compete with iPad mini

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 19 Februari 2013 0 komentar

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 has leaked so frequently in the past couple of months (heck, even Samsung’s head of Mobile Communications confirmed it), that the device may as well be out already.

The latest news about the compact tablet is that it’s set to hit retail in Europe at the end of March for around €359 for the WiFi only version (€449 if you throw 3G into the mix). Compare this to €329 for the iPad mini (€429 with 3G), and you can see that Samsung aim to directly compete with the smaller iPad with their upcoming product.

It’s no secret that Samsung plan to officially “unveil” the device at MWC later this month, although given how often the device has leaked, you can almost take the 1,280 x 800 pixel Super Clear LCD display alongside quad-core 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 processor, 5 MP primary and 1.3 front-facing cameras, 2 GB of RAM, 16/32 GB internal memory, and 4600 mAh battery to the bank.
Be sure to check back with us for our full MWC coverage next week, where we’ll have all you need to know about the Note 8.0 and much, much more.

Nokia has launched a new Asha phone, called the Asha 310. The phone slots in above the current Asha 309 and includes dual-SIM support lacking on the 309.

Other specs remain identical, including a 3-inch, 400 x 240 LCD, 2 megapixel rear camera, 20MB memory with microSD card slot (supports up to 32GB), WI-Fi, Bluetooth and FM Radio. The dual-SIM slot uses Nokia's Easy Swap method that lets you swap SIMs without switching off the phone and remembers profiles for up to five SIM cards.
The Nokia Asha 310 will go on sale in Asia, India, the Middle East, Africa and Brazil starting Q1 2013 for approximately US$102.
