FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia's Lumia handsets account for 85 percent of Windows Phone 8 devices sold, according to statistics compiled by advertising company Adduplex.

Adduplex, a Windows Phone advertising company, has collected data from handsets running Microsoft's mobile operating system that has revealed that Nokia continues to dominate the market, accounting for 85.4 percent of all Windows Phone 8 handsets. Of course these figures aren't sales numbers from Nokia or Microsoft, but they paint the picture that Nokia continues to control the Windows Phone market.

Adduplex said, "Nokia continues its domination in the Windows Phone 8 ecosystem and has gained another percent compared to last month. And there's very little hope HTC or Samsung will make a serious comeback in the nearest future."

The ad firm's figures show that the Nokia Lumia 520 is the world's most popular Windows Phone handset too, accounting for 13.3 percent of the global Windows Phone market. That's perhaps not surprising, given that the handset is on sale in the UK for less than £150.

Adduplex added, "Nokia Lumia 520 was only the fifth most popular Windows Phone last month but the trend was clear and, it's no surprise, that it shot up in the chart straight to number one. Almost 1/5 of all the new app installations happen on the 520 now."

While Nokia's Lumia 925 smartphone, and the more recent Nokia Lumia 1020, are yet to make it onto the charts, Nokia's Lumia 920 ranked as the second most popular Windows Phone handset, accounting for an 11.8 percent share of the market.

This is closely followed by the Nokia Lumia 620 and Lumia 710 handsets, both with 9.6 percent, and the Nokia Lumia 800 which still retains an 8.4 percent share of the Windows Phone market.

In fact, the only non-Nokia Windows Phone handset on the list is the Lumia-esque HTC Windows Phone 8X handset, although this has a small 3.7 percent share, which perhaps explains why phone makers other than Nokia are starting to show signs of giving up on Microsoft's mobile operating system. ยต
