NCC Set To Implement Mobile Number Portability For Cheaper Calls

Updated:

Call tariffs are expected to be cheaper in Nigeria for 2013 due to mobile number portability scheme (MNP). There can't be a better news for Nigerians. You will notice a lot of radio adverts have started rolling out to educate the masses on how it works.
According to information being propagated from the NCC website, it will be free to register for this service.
It is also available to both prepaid and postpaid users and will e available for GLO, MTN, ETISALAT and AIRTEL subscribers.

Mobile Number Portability

Mobile number portability scheme would enable subscribers to retain their mobile numbers if they migrate from one network to another. This means that should a subscriber choose to switch from Glo to MTN, for example, the same mobile number will continue to work with the new carrier (MTN).

This scheme foundation had already begun since last year and should be completed during the first to second quarter of the year 2013.

The benefits of this development is that consumers will be able to switch from one carrier to another without the fear of changing cell number.
Also, this will propel carriers to improve the quality of their services since changing carrier will not affect cell number anymore. You will note that sms are now charged at N4 across all carriers; which is good. Furthermore, call tariffs will significantly reduce.

You will note that complains have trailed the NCC office in the last quarter last year due to bad quality of service.
Therefore, there's great chance that carriers will want to improve QoS so as to keep a subscriber from changing carrier.

For me, this is a welcomed development and it will be greeted with great razzmatazz by Nigerians that have been paying significant price for mobile calls and internet data with the persisting bad QoS.
As in anything that starts fresh, there will be hiccups but it usually gets better with time. Lets support this project and push for better data, voice and SMS services from these telecommunication companies.

iOS 6.0.2 Untethered Jailbreak Now Available On iPhone 5

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 05 Januari 2013 0 komentar
Popular hacker Planetbeing have brought hope to many with his statement today via reditt saying that he has an untethered iOS 6.0.2 jailbreak running on his iPhone 5.
He however insisted that it cannot be released now because of the release of iOS 6.1 that the boys at Apple will drop anytime soon.
This statement brings hope to many as some people have though that tethered jailbreak of new devices isn't possible let alone an untethered jailbreak.
However Planetbeing has this to say:

Untethered Jailbreak iOS 6.0.2 on iPhone 5
"Yeah, I’m not really sure what all the doom and gloom is about. The fact is, I have an untethered iOS 6.0.2 JB running on my iPhone 5 right now. The reasons it’s not released are because 1. releasing it would burn an exploit we want to save for ourselves so we can always get in to look at new firmware and help JB in the future, 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and will likely break a small part of it anyway, there’s no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won’t break.

Anyway, where there are 4+ bugs (that it took to get this to work), there’s gotta be one or two more so while jailbreaking is getting harder, reports of its death are highly exaggerated.

This is not stuff I want to say over Twitter with 140 characters because I’m afraid of starting some sort of riot, but I like the smaller /r/jailbreak community more. "

That is it folks, if you thought that JB is over for new devices then think again cos these guys are not gonna let Apple win the fight that easily.
Stay tuned for more info on untethered JB has they come.

Yesterday, it was reported that thieves broke into the Microsoft's campus in Mountain View on The 19th and 26th of December 2012.
This incident was reported to the police on wednesday 3rd 2013.
According to the info, 2 iPad 2, 2 iPad 3 and 1 iPad 4 (iPad with retina display as its called) was stolen from Microsoft's office. The worth of this is estimated to be about $3,000.
Although what comes to my mind is that why did it take so much time for a theft committed last year to just be reported 1 week later.
Whatever it is, the thieves must really love Apple products over Microsoft products.

Ubuntu OS For Smartphones

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 03 Januari 2013 0 komentar
Smartphone business is a serious business now, more serious than when it first began. However, a more serious business is the OS that runs on these smart devices.
From Android, Windows Phones OS to iOS, there had been a steady release to how these OS play a bigger role in the sales of smart devices. Most people will argue that they can't buy a device that doesn't run android while some will die for iOS.
This OS business is so huge and important that Mozilla and Ubuntu have decided to join in the race to create OS for smartphones.
Late last year, we saw Mozilla showing off their intent to make Mozilla OS that will run on smartphones and now Ubuntu which is a Linux based operating system that has gained popularity as regards the desktop and server version have decide to join in the race to produce Ubuntu for smartphones.
The race will be fierce has Apple iOS and Android dominates these industry not to mention the strong presence that Windows Phone OS is making.
Though Android is Linux based, Ubuntu won't be able to run android based apps.
Ubuntu will have its own architecture in which it will run apps. However, any phone or device capable of running Android will be able to run Ubuntu OS.
I would love to see the set of devices that will run this new OS that will come to play this year. It could be Samsung, LG Acer etc. which everyone it is, am sure it would be loved and it's presence would be felt.
